Announcement for the next Bernese GNSS Software Introduction Course
Location : Bern, Switzerland.
Course date: Monday, January 27 to Friday, January 31, 2025
Registration: mandatory via online form
Registration deadline: Monday, January 13, 2025
Please note: registrations received are considered definitve.
If you cannot participate you have to cancel your registration (via email to bernese@aiub.unibe.ch).
If you register and do not show up without cancellation, you will be charged for the course fee of CHF 1200
- Course cost: the Bernese license in many cases includes the course fee for one or two participants. The course fee is CHF 1200 per person. Check with us, if in doubt regarding the fee.
- The course is also open to non-Bernese users. Precedence is given to Bernese users, however. In case you want to participate in view of an eventual purchase of the license, let us know.

- The course will based on the curent Version 5.4 of the Bernese GNSS Software.
Important Information for Participants
- Travel and Accommodation: information about travelling to Switzerland, finding the course locale and other information regarding accommodation and useful information for your stay here.
- Visa req. : useful information regarding visa requirements to enter Switzerland.
- Course materials (presentations) will be made available in print during the course. Pdf will be made available after the course on request.
- Terminal sessions:
- Basic knowledge on linux (file operations) will be necessary for the terminal sessions, you will work on the linux version of Bernese.
- If you are not at all familiar with the Linux Operating System and its command line interface,
we suggest to familiarize yourself with the few basic commands you may have to use during
the course, such as directory listing and navigating, file content displaying, copying files,
deleting files, and similar.
Numerous resources are available on the web, from simple "cheat sheets" to tutorial videos, even freely accessible virtual Linux machines that can be run in your browser to play around (e.g. JSLinux).
This course presupposes a certain level of knowledge in the area of Satellite Geodesy and Least Squares Adjustment. To avoid being overwhelmed by the amount of material covered in these five days, we recommend the following (minimal) reading list from the software manual:
